Vanquish Shame

I burnt some shame today

Words of blue to red then grey

And grey again

Lines dance then licked by flickering flames

Still some ink

Defiantly remains

Now released – should I feel calm?

From outside, you don’t see the harm

Embarrassment – the firearm

Of personal hell

To avoid alarm

I burnt some shame today.

I know my pain’s not sensible

Rational, sound or logical

Deep within, conspiratorial,

It whispers

Hardly audible

Don’t burn your shame today

Don’t let me go, l need to stay

To keep you humble, Make you pay

For all you’ve done, all those mistakes

No! Write it down!

Release, burn, say:

I vanquished shame today.
