My dad always says, “Don’t do me any favours.  If you want to come to see me, great. If you don’t, well, that’s great too. I have a life! I would rather you did something else that you want to do”.  Those words have stuck with me.

We can’t control anyone else’s words, actions or thinking and there are benefits and drawbacks to whatever decision is made. If we choose to go to the movies, we can discuss the latest movie out, we do something different and spend two hours of downtime.  It is great if we have a night at the movies.  The flip side is that the movie costs money and might not be very good.  If we don’t go, it is great too.

Once you decide to do something, do it with good grace and attitude.  Make it the best experience you can.  Do not turn up grudgingly and moan about other things you could be doing.  If you don’t want to do something, don’t do it. Your time is the most precious commodity you possess so spend it wisely.
